Photos

A collection of photos from W4JE. I acquired my first digital camera in August, 2003: a Pentax Optio 550. The 550 is a 5 megapixel (2592x1944 pixel) point-and-shoot with a 5x optical zoom. The camera is very compact and lightweight, and very powerful. It has modes for panoramas, interval shooting, continuous shooting, multiple exposures, stereoscopic pairs, movies (up to 10 min on a 256 MB SDRAM card), and many different exposure priority modes. It took a long time for me to convert to digital cameras, but now I'm a firm believer in digital photography!

Most of my shots here are displayed "as-is" from the camera (other than shrinking them down for web display). I have found that the camera's own exposure and color balance settings are rarely in need of improvement. This is due to a combination of factors, including the camera's good software, and the ability to view digital pictures instantly and re-shoot those that didn't work.

A recommendation for those of you who desire good prints from your digital photos: Shutterfly offers an excellent assortment of prints, including snapshot-sized, enlargements (up to 20x24), cards, calendars, and other items. I have used them on several occasions and their work is excellent.
