The Moon and Jupiter, March 26, 2004
The Moon and Jupiter shot through a Vixen 90mm refractor using afocal projection from an eyepiece into the lens of my Pentax Optio 550 point-and-shoot. The picture of Jupiter is from three frames that were aligned, stacked, and processed using Registax. The exposure for each frame was 1/20 or 1/10 second at f/2.8. The individual frames were relatively sharp but underexposed. Stacking and processing helped brighten up the disk and bring out the equatorial bands a bit better. No clock drive was used. The Moon picture was taken using the same setup, and the exposure was 1/50 sec at f/2.8. The Moon picture was processed (brightness/contrast/sharpness) in Photoshop. All images were taken using autofocus mode.
